During your initial consultation our compassionate dental team will discuss with you the restorative treatment that would be best suited to address your particular oral concern. We will take special care to assess your situation. There are a number of things that we are looking for when we conduct these assessments.

If you have any sign of tooth decay, you may require a filling. Tooth decay is caused by a build-up of bacteria in your mouth. Poor oral hygiene habits can lead to bacteria running amok. This bacteria can form into plaque which clings to your teeth. This plaque is what causes cavities and tooth decay. If tooth decay is left untreated this can become a very serious situation and lead to all sorts of problems including tooth loss, gum disease and heart problems.

If you have broken or missing teeth, this can be fixed through dental crowns and bridges. These are prosthetic teeth that are fixed into your mouth and work as normal teeth. This is a viable option for certain oral situations.

To avoid things like tooth decay you need to have proper oral hygiene. This involves brushing your teeth twice a day for at least 2 minutes. Many people barely make it past 30 seconds rather than a full 2 minutes. It’s also very important to floss every day. Brushing alone only reaches 3 of the 5 surfaces of your teeth. By flossing, you are able to reach those other 2 surfaces and improve the overall health of your mouth. If that plaque and bacteria are not removed they can fester in those nooks and crannies in between your teeth. Lastly, it’s also important to have a teeth-friendly diet. Avoiding foods that are high in sugars is a good way of maintaining the enamel on your teeth. Additionally, things like wine and citrus are high in acidity, and can also cause this breakdown of the outer layer of your teeth. Only through proper care can you avoid things like tooth decay.

It’s also important to visit your dentist for regular check-ups. This is where any further issues can be observed by your dentist. It’s important that you do have dental check-ups as these restorative treatment options need to be identified by a dental professional. Due to the nature of many oral problems, you may not realise there is an issue until it has progressed into its late stages.

Additionally, if you have had fillings in the past you may have had metal or amalgam fillings. Nowadays, we use white fillings. If you have amalgam fillings and would like to change to white fillings, then please contact us and we can evaluate your situation.
